There is plenty of speculation going on about the 5G mobile network. Since it’s shown to be the next generation of network tech and ten times faster than 4G, expectations are running high. This mobile network seems to be destined to bring progress and innovation in multiple categories, from production to AI (artificial intelligence), and even remote health care. But, the real question is, what will be the most significant impact of the 5G mobile network? Let’s take a look at the statistics and what research has to say.

What Makes 5G Any Good?

To figure out what will be the most significant impact of the 5G mobile network, we first have to start with its predecessor – 4G. In the past few years, 4G mobile networks became a widespread sensation. Data transmission became quicker and smartphones more functional. But, since the 5G was announced, 4G became a foreign concept. Now, 4G pales in comparison with this new network. The 5G was built upon a foundation of 4G, but with major improvements. With the latest network we get:  - Bigger data transmission capacity  - Low latency that can go down from 50 to 1 millisecond  - Massive mobile coverage  - Multiple devices connected at the same time  - From 100 to 1000 times quicker connection (web surfing, downloading, buffering.) Ex. Movies will buffer in just under 10 sec. [caption id="attachment_3865" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Man holding phone. Therefore, it can have a positive impact on various industries in all kinds of sectors. At the moment, there is a high demand for advanced and improved data services and mobile tech. This includes VR (virtual reality), object manipulation, automation (self-driving cars), improved internet connection, and more. Basically, this mobile network will cut the time and delay needed for communication, data transfer, web usage, etc. The multiple uses of such a network will have a major impact on the economy and society, mainly for contributing to tax revenue and GDP.

Will 5G Get Us Any Closer to Smart Cities?

With 5G, everything can get connected. We have the potential to create an absolutely new "ecosystem," which can have the power to transcend the way we see the world today. We might even get the chance to create entire smart cities. Since multiple devices can be connected at the same time, even in overcrowded areas, this becomes possible. But, this tech can offer much more than that. With 5G, we can create safer traffic conditions. Since the connection allows real-time observation, we can get feedback on what the road conditions are, therefore, reducing the chance for an accident. It could be equally beneficial for VR. Because of the better connection and less latency, people will have the possibility to create real virtual environments and simulations that are much closer to our real world.

When Will We Get Our Hands on 5G Tech?

Some operators like T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T have already implemented 5G tech in only some areas since 2018. Right now, the standard for the tech is still being talked about the same way manufacturers, and operators discussed it before they released the 4G Mobile Network. There is some speculation that the EU will focus on adding full coverage of 5G technology by the end of 2025. But, in general, it’s believed that 2020 is supposed to be the year of 5G tech. Until then, we will have to wait and see. Do you have high hopes for 5G? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
